Looks like a good show.  From the EAA web site:

Ice Pilots Coming to Nat Geo

Ice Pilots

February 24, 2011 —Those in the United States who’ve always wanted to watch Ice Pilots NWT, the Canadian reality TV series featuring Buffalo Airways, an airline that still uses DC-3s, will be in luck this spring. The series has been on in Canada only, but according to a tweet this week from @IcePilotsNWT, the series will come to Nat Geo starting in May.

“#IcePilotsNWT is ready to take to the airwaves in the US! Starting this May, Ice Pilots NWT Season 1 will be airing on National Geographic,” @IcePilotsNWT tweeted.

And posted on the Facebook page was, “You asked and we made it happen! Ice Pilots NWT is ready to take to the airwaves in the US! Starting this May, Ice Pilots NWT Season One will be airing on National Geographic. Stay tuned for air date info.”

Here’s a video featuring Buffalo Airlines created before AirVenture 2010, where the airline participated in the 75th anniversary celebration of the DC-3.

Say, its been a while since MFC has crowded the skies. How about a nice group trip for the weekend of the 26th? Maybe re attempting Mikes mystery fly out possibly??? Just an idea. Lets chat it up to get the juices flowing again!

Special Items!

12:46 pm in General by Admiral Duvak

Good afternoon fellow pilots,

I have annoucements for the club. First off, we some members that have made a spot on the MFC honor roll! Recently, Steve Richardson who we havent seen in a while, obtained his license! He has been seen at the airport more frequently, and working on his IFR. Hes also looking to build cross country pilot in command time, and welcomes anyone wanting to split legs, or act as his saftey pilot for instrument work.

Our buddy Andrew Holeford got his certifed flight instruction certificate reinstated as well!! Glad to see newly certificated pilots sticking thier nose to the grind! Also, our visit to the Atlantic City Internation Airports, tech centers date is being moved. I will have details on that with’n the next two weeks. I hope everyone is getting thier flying spirt recharged as the weather is getting nicer. Maybe we can get an outing in this month? Lets chat it up, and take it from there!

Regards,

Admiral Duvak.

Weather at N87

7:51 pm in General by Miguel Edwards

So, I realize I’m probably late to the game here, but imagine my surprise and delight when I was playing with ForeFlight on my iPad and found a METAR for N87! I’d heard about its planned arrival but I would have expected some fanfare around its implementation. When did it go live?

MFC’s hanger session, was another great one!

11:12 pm in General by Admiral Duvak

Just recapping the last hanger sessions overview for those that missed some details we discussed. At our session on Friday, we gained a new member. (Welcome again Corey) Corey  of o NJ. Corey has had his license for a while, and looks to possibly come out of a hiatus in the mere future to relive his hard earned pilot certificate privileges! Our good member Ken Krewson, also gave a great presentation on his experience renting a GA plane in Hawaii! Fun time as it appeared to he had have as well! On top of that, our flight instructor in training,(Admiral) Gave a lecture on what will be a multi part segment  throughout the year of ‘aircraft survival equipment part one.’ In this segment, he went over the use of an aviation approved fire extinguisher., why it might be important to equip your aircraft with one, and knowing the proper grade of one! (Quiz on this towards the mid point of the  by the way!)

The administrated segment, consisted of going over ways to attract some new members briefly, and increase the membership growth. (flyer’s, etc.) More guest speakers at meetings is another,(which by the way, we may have one in March), and so on. Any suggestions by the way is welcome! Our flyout batteries are still on idle being we have three more weeks of winter left, and don’t want to deal with the work of taking the ‘fun’ out of flying. Hopefully in March, MFCS flying batteries will be ready for usage. The consensus as of now, is still keep this year a ‘pick an event on the go’ sort of consent. This winter kept us grounded somewhat, and who knows what will summers weather hold for us. After, we are all involved in Mercer Flying Club to have fun right? The looser of things, the better!

So friends, their is your recap, and if anyone has any input on anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me!

Sincerely,

Dave Duvak!

PBS Special: Air France Crash Investigation

10:29 pm in General by Miguel Edwards

I just saw an awesome documentary on PBS where they reconstructed the events leading up to the crash of the Air France flight in 2009. Like every other aviation accident, there is a single event that causes a chain of events thereafter, ultimately leading to the fatal crash. There are some great aviation facts that we all learned during primary brought to life, as well as some physics about high altitude jet flight many of us haven’t been exposed to. My main takeaway is the reliance of today’s pilots on automation and information systems, and deterioration of manual piloting techniques (this coming from a guy who won’t fly in the pattern without a 430 and XM weather).

Here is a preview

You definitely want to try to catch this if you can. How the lessons learned from this accident would make a great conversation piece at one of our hangar meetings.Log on to PBS.org for additional information and air dates.

Plane and Pilot, both grounded

8:03 am in General by Michael Friedman

Hey guys,  I won’t be able to make the meeting next Friday.  I’ll be traveling with family.  I did want to bring anyone who didn’t already know up to date since I won’t be there to do it in person.
I had a bit of a cardiac scare a few weeks ago.  Turned out to be a 99% blocked “Left Anterior Decending” artery.  The cardiac surgeon referred to this as “the widow-maker”, which my wife did not appreciate.  Anyway, Angioplasty and a Stent later, I’m feeling just fine but of course for now my medical is toast.  No PIC for a while.

Then, just to add insult to injury, I loaned my airplane to Dave Duvak last weekend – AND HE BROKE IT!   I got a call from the Admiral from Central Jersey Regional, where he stopped for gas, that the plane would not restart.  Lots of bad grinding sounds.  Well, the forward casting on the starter Bendix gear cracked and broke off.  Fortunately, my mechanic is at Central Jersey and we’re awaiting parts and room in the hanger to work.

Of course, Dave, I’M JUST KIDDING.  I’m fairly sure it would have broken regardless of who was turning the key… too hard.  ;-)   I’m sure Dave will have a good war story for the meeting over this.

See you all later,

Mike
