EFB seminar in Doylestown

Hello all-
I just wanted to tell everyone about the EFB seminar that took place in Doylestown, PA last weekend. It was a well organized event held by the Doylestown Pilots Association (DPA) and was held off airport at a Lincoln Mercury dealer. As far as the content, it was nothing mind blowing. The FAA Rep just briefly defined the different types/classes/levels of EFB ranging from our portable GPS devices up to the latest synthetic vision Garmin flat panels. Unfortunately, the FAA Rep had an air of superiority when he spoke to the crowd as he “sort of” chastised use about the use of these devices. In addition, you could tell that he either never saw this PowerPoint before or did not prepare well for the seminar. Sorry it is just a point of disappointment for me to drive 45 minutes to hear someone read word for word off a screen and not offer anything but what is written in the FAR-AIMs. The best discussion for me occurred after the seminar when I had some of my questions answered by others in attendance. It was pretty much the consensus though that the Apple iPad with the addition of ForeFlight is used by many and despite reported problems, no one in attendance has experienced any of them. I also had an excellent conversation with an ex-Navy pilot from Vietnam/Korea who spent 10 years building an RV-6A. It was a wonderful group of pilots on hand and despite the horrible FAA guy, it was a worthwhile seminar to attend. Finally, the seminar was actually a part of the DPAs regular monthly meeting. I obtained a list of different events that they are having this year in case any one of us or a group of us wanted to support one of their events. I will try my best to post them on this site for all to see. They don’t seem to do many fly-outs but they do host lots of events at Doylestown Airport (KDYL). critter
